David E. Gettinger passed away on November 4, 2023, at Reid Health in Connersville at the age of 85. David was born on August 9, 1938, in Connersville, Indiana, the son of Paul and Mary Fisher Gettinger.
David graduated from Alquina High School in 1956. He continued his education, receiving a bachelor's degree in physics from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana in 1960 and a Master of Arts degree from Ball State University in 1965. He retired after 40 years in 2000 as a Spanish teacher. He had taught in high schools throughout Indiana. After retirement, he returned to Connersville and did substitute teaching at Connersville High School.
He was member of the Jenning Township Advisory Board, board member of the Fayette County Housing Authority, secretary for the Democrat Central Committee, Precinct Committee in Jennings Township, State Teachers Association, and 4-H Clubs for several years. David was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and season ticket holder for years. He also enjoyed Purdue sports and is a self-proclaimed #1 fan of the Alquina Blue Arrows.
David's love and memory will be cherished by his brother, William Gettinger as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Donald (Phyllis) Gettinger, Philip (Joanna) Gettinger and Robert (Marjorie) Gettinger; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Margie (Carl) Jones and Hilda (Ed) Ostermann; and a sister-in-law, Grace Gettinger.
Funeral services will be conducted at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W 8th Street, Connersville on Saturday November 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. with Pastor William Peterson officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service. David will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alquina Blue Arrows Park, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
