David Edward Gibson, 87, of
Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on March 7, 2026.
David was born on November 6, 1938, in
Glasgow, Kentucky, to the late Mary and Hughy Gibson, their only child. He spent his early childhood in Glasgow where he began his schooling before moving with his family to
Greenwood, Indiana. It was there that he continued his education and later graduated from high school.
At the young age of 17, with his parents' consent, Dave enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a chapter of service that he carried with great pride throughout his life. He served honorably from 1955 to 1961 aboard the USS Randolph (CVA-15), stationed out of Great Lakes, Illinois. His time in the Navy helped shape the character, discipline, and sense of camaraderie that remained with him for the rest of his life.
Following his military service, Dave returned to civilian life and entered the workforce, trying his hand at a variety of jobs while pursuing one of his greatest passions-music. Over the years he worked in many roles, including bartending at the Glasgow Country Club, and he became well known for playing in several bands throughout Indianapolis and Greenwood area. Music remained a constant part of his life, and he continued performing with different groups into the 2000's. Dave loved recording music with friends and produced several CD's that family and friends have enjoyed through the years.
Always believing in education and personal growth, Dave returned to school and graduated from IUPUI in 1973, earning a bachelor of science in business. Soon after graduating, he began a career in banking as a loan officer with American Fletcher Bank in downtown Indianapolis. While building his professional career during the week, Dave never gave up his love for music, often spending weekends performing with one of his bands.
After many years in banking, Dave eventually retired from the industry. Retirement, however did not suit him for long. Wanting to stay active and connected with people, he went on to work in the parts department at Thermo King, where he was able to stay close with his band of brothers Danny, Tom, John, Glenn and countless others.
Dave was also deeply committed to community and fellowship. In 1980 he joined the Greenwood Masonic Lodge, where he was a proud and active member. He remained equally proud of his service as a United States Navy veteran and cherished the bonds of brotherhood found both in the military and Masonic fraternity.
Those who knew Dave will remember him for his warm personality, quick wit and unmistakable "gift of gab." He had away of striking up conversations wherever he went and loved sharing stories, laughter, and good times with friends. Dave truly left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and his sense of humor and love for life made him a joy to be around.
Dave was proceeded in death by his parents, Mary and Hughy Gibson.
He will be remembered for his lifelong love of music, his dedication to his country, community, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026 at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery, 620 Main Street, Greenwood. A wake will be held following the burial at the American Legion Post 252, 334 US 31 S.,
Greenwood, Indiana 46142.
