David V. Grimes

David Vance Grimes, 72, passed away Dec. 9, 2010 at the Hampton, VA Hospital. He was born in Portsmouth to the late Hazel and Robert Grimes. He is survived by two sisters, Janet G. Lunde and Maggie Anne Dehler; three stepchildren, Andrea Wiggins of Chesapeake, Wayne Moody of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Woody Moody of Lockport, N.Y.; multiple nieces and nephews; and his loving companion of many years, Linda A. Mathews. David graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, served in the Army in Special Forces, Marine Corps Reserve and in the Alabama National Guard. The family will receive friends at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, Saturday Dec. 18, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. With a brief service at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , Operation Smile or the charity of your choice. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and attention given to David by the Hampton VA Hospital 4D East Wing Nursing staff. Burial will be private.
