David Grisham Obituary

David Grisham

David D.

Grisham, 69, longtime Albuquerque resident, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 with his loving and devoted wife, Lynn by his side. He is also survived by son, Christian Philips and his wife, Jen; two granddaughters, Anna and Lydia; sister, Diann Bandy; brother, Dr. Dwight Grisham; brother-in-law, Craig Moline; aunts, Alberta Short and Frances Anne Lindsey; cousins, Lori Guererro, Dane Medley, Dirk Medley, and Jan Lucero. Also, special mention of close friends, Florida, Alan Rue, and Dr. Paul Radway. They were instrumental in caring for Dave after he was paralyzed in 1974 and have been lifelong friends to this day. Dave's faithful guide dog, Happy, who was with Dave every day at work will now be his wife, Lynn's constant companion. David was preceded in death by his mother, Meryl Williams.

David was born in Casper, WY. He and his mother lived a short time in Texas before moving to Pueblo, CO where he spent the majority of his youth. Dave was considered a daredevil by many. As a young man he enjoyed diving, scuba diving, and especially flying. Dave attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. His time in the Academy cemented his love of flight. He competed in cliff diving in the 1967 Pan American Games, was an alternate diver in the 1968 Olympics, and a chaperone for the 1972 Olympic diving team. Among his many accomplishments and adventures, Dave earned two master's degrees and a PhD.

He met the love of his life, Lynn, in 1993. Together they loved to spend time enjoying life. Lynn has fond memories of breakfast at the Albuquerque Aquarium, spending time at the casino, movies, and classical concerts together.

Special thanks to the whole family of UNMH, especially the IT Department where Dave worked for 20 years. Prior to his work at the hospital Dave worked for UNM CIRT for 10 years. Dave loved his work and the people he worked with.

Lynn is grateful for all the support and care she and Dave received by the Palliative doctors and nurses as well as the entire staff of the ICU at the VA. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers you can make a memorial contribution to Assistance Dog of the West (ADW) P.O. Box 31027 Santa Fe, NM 87594 or www.assistancedogsofthewest.org
