David Grypp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Krause Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Inc. - New Berlin on Dec. 1, 2025.
David "Dave" Walter Grypp was born on June 26, 1946, in Geneseo, Illinois, and died on November 26, 2025, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin at St. Camillus Memory Care.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty, and by his children, Michael Grypp (Jennifer Herzog) and Diane Grypp (Bryant Moroder). His great joy was his granddaughter, Madeline "Maddie" Moroder, who brought him endless pride and delight.

He is survived by his siblings, Lawrence (Linda) Grypp and Janet (Michael) Schneider, and his brothers-in-law, Ralph Blackert, Arlyn Clementz, and Richard Altman. Dave's memory will be carried on by his many nieces and nephews: Mary Grant, Mark Blackert, Steven Blackert (godchild), Faith Schmidt, Cynthia Wells, Maureen Eilers, John Eilers, Walter Eilers (godchild), Charles Eilers, Randall Clementz, Scott Clementz, Laura Clementz (godchild), Lynette Grypp, Andrew Schneider, Adam Altman, and Nathanial Altman. He will also fondly be remembered by his brothers-in-law Duane Richter, Harold Richter (Kristin Jansson), Gary (Mary) Richter, Ronald Richter, and his five Richter nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret (Mariman) Grypp, and his sisters, Mary Ann Blackert, Joan (Franklin) Eilers, Judith Clementz, and Constance Altman, his sister-in-law Deborah Richter, as well as his nephew James Eilers.

Dave attended Annawan High School, where he played football and developed lifelong friendships. He earned both his Undergraduate Degree and MBA in Marketing Management from Western Illinois University, later completing his PhD in Adult and Continuing Education Administration at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Dave served honorably in the Army Reserve from 1968 to 1973.

Professionally, Dave was deeply committed to education and to his students, taking great pride in his 40-year career at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), where he served as both an instructor and an administrator.

Dave lived a vibrant and engaged life. He loved watching sports (especially cheering on the Packers), fishing (particularly with his good friend and neighbor Bob Kuntz), and cooking family favorites such as chili, shrimp salad, chicken enchiladas, and apple crisps. He enjoyed reading, traveling, spending time at Mansfield Drive gatherings, socializing at family get-togethers, and monitoring and eating the flavor of the day at Kopp's.

Dave valued having fun. Throughout his 12-year journey with Parkinson's disease, Dave never complained and continued to live his life to the fullest. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a deep love of nature, a great joy of teaching, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the St. Camillus Memory Care caregivers, therapists, and nursing staff, as well as the St. Camillus Cathedral Square residents and families who offered support, compassion, and companionship throughout Dave's journey. Additionally, the family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff of St. Camillus Hospice for their kindness and care.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Krause Funeral Home at 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, WI, from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 AM. Streaming services will be available at https://krausefuneralhome.com/.

I worked with Dave for many years at MATC. I recall how he loved and charted his annual fishing adventures to the Boundary Waters with his friends.

Betty, I'm so sorry to hear about Dave's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these difficult days. I'm sad that Bruce and I couldn't make the reunion in September. It would have been great to see you again. Blessings, Barbara Wannemacher
