David Harnish Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheridan Funeral Home & Cremation Services from Jan. 17 to Jan. 18, 2026.
David William Harnish October 26, 1961-January 17, 2026, David William Harnish, resident of Sheridan Wyoming, formerly of Casper, Wyoming, passed away in the early morning hours of January 17, 2026. He was 64 years old.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1-3pm. It will be at the Eagles on Commercial Ave in Sheridan, WY and anyone who loved Dave is welcome. The family is asking for no donations to be made.

David was born in Denver, CO on October 26, 1961, to Harold and Donna Harnish. He was the youngest of their three kids and quickly completed their family. They moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1979 where he graduated from NCHS.

In December of 1984, he married his first wife, Kathi, and they shared 3 children together. They parted ways and then David met the love of his life, Rebecca. In 1997, they united in marriage and built a beautiful family; combining her three daughters with his three children. They shared a life together that most only dream of. In 2005 they moved to Sheridan, Wyoming, and loved being closer to Dave's parents and siblings.

He was loved at every job he held from the 20+ years at Rocky Mountain Brake and Supply to the almost 20 years at Spring Creek Coal mine. He poured himself fully into everything he did, whether it was work, home, or one of his many hobbies. Over the years, he chased many dreams. He was a Tae Kwon Do master and a national champion, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and keeping his MOPAR cars in pristine condition. He loved to travel with his family, especially if that travel involved the mountains. His favorite place to be was in the Bighorns camping, mudding, and riding in the SXS. The only thing he loved more than spending time in the mountains was being with his grandkids. He was blessed with many and enjoyed any time he could get with them.

David was a truly exceptional man, one that is hard to describe in words. He loved easy and he loved hard. He was always ready to make you smile with a witty joke, and he would always show up when you needed him. He took in every stray, from cats to birds to lizards; and he loved every single one. He never gave less than 100%, which also made him impossibly stubborn. He led a beautiful life, filled with a beautiful marriage, and beautiful children and grandchildren. And though his life was far too short, he packed it full of love, and he is leaving an incredible legacy.

David will be truly missed by his wife of 28 years Rebecca Harnish, Mother Donna Harnish, Son Ben (Jeni) Harnish, Daughter Nichole Hedges, Son Jeremy (Kara) Harnish, Daughter Kristen Hedges, Daughter Kelcie (Michael) Hart, Daughter Kadi (Matthew) Johnson, Sister Gail (Ben) Johnson and Brother Brian. He leaves behind 10 grandkids, who all love him dearly, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Harnish.

Dave was truly a great man and friend. I knew him RMB and Springcreek. He always had a kind and encouraging word. I´m shocked by this and hope all goes well with his family

I´m going to miss our friendship and conversations he was always willing to listen or lend a hand or up to some kind of shenanigans we could pull. BFF RIP my friend.

To those who left us when the world was a better place.
Who made our biggest issues seem nonexistent, because we were in the presence of something greater.
When the ugliness inside us all was gone, if even for a moment, because of their radiant beauty.
Just their memory can bring a smile to those who had the pleasure of being infected by their contagious heart.
A heart so big it seemed to make you a better person
Who´s laughter you can hear by just looking a photograph, seemed give life purpose.
To those who left us when the world was a better place
Better, because they were a part of it..

Dave was a great guy. I am so thankful for the time we spent together. His ornery humor was always the highlight of our lunch get togethers. I´m going to miss him. Cheers to you my friend.
