David J. Hartigan

1944 - 2024

David J. Hartigan, 79 of Forest City, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 while vacationing in Cozumel, Mexico.
Visitation for David will be held from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Schott Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City. A Scriptural Wake service will begin at 6:00 P.M officiated by Deacon John Roisen.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at St. James Catholic Church, 906 West O St., Forest City with Father Andrew Marr officiating.
Burial of cremains will take place in the spring at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.
David James Hartigan born May 1, 1944 to James and Nadine (Mathison) Hartigan in Ute, Iowa, along with his siblings, Everett Hartigan and Coleen Crawford
He attended grade school, middle school and most of high school in Ute, Iowa. When Dave was a senior the Ute and Charter Oak schools consolidated, he completed his senior high school year going to the Charter Oak-Ute Community school.
Dave married Vonis Marie Schulz on May 29, 1964 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Ute, Iowa and to this union, two children, Troy David (May 21, 1965) and Stacie Lynn (October 28, 1966) were born.
Dave worked for Gregerson Elevator then Berne Coop both in Ute, Iowa. The family moved to Forest City in 1970 when Dave took a job as Branch Manager of the Leland Farmers Coop. He worked for Mathews Company and then started at Winnebago Industries in 1981 first as an inspector then moved to the Owner Relations department where he completed his working years retiring from there.
Dave was a longtime member of St James Catholic Church in Forest City. There he served as a greeter, usher, eucharistic minister, CCD teacher with his wife, along with being the youth minister with his wife for several years.
Dave was a member of the Forest City local Jaycee's and was president for two years. Was also a member of the state Jaycees of Iowa.
He loved to fish, golf, and working in his woodwork shop building birdhouses and other small projects. He loved watching the birds he fed and as every family member knows playing his solitaire and casino games on his iPad/phone.
Dave's favorite was vacationing with his wife in several U.S. states with family members, a couple places in Mexico and for the past 15 years spending their winters in Cozumel, Mx. He along with his wife, Vonis considered Cozumel their second home and felt all the ElCid Laceiba staff was family away from home along with friends they met there from Iowa, New Jersey, Maine, North Dakota, Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, Canada, Alaska and Cozumel that they vacationed with every winter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Patrick Hartigan and Nadine Beatrice (Mathison) Hartigan; granddaughter, Tara Jo Hartigan; brother, Everett Hartigan; father and mother-in-law, Ben and Henrietta Schulz; brother-in-law, James Crawford; sisters in law, Marlys Van Pelt and Irene Schulz, Betty Hartigan and his grandparents.
David leaves behind his wife, Vonis Marie Hartigan of Forest City; son, Troy and his wife Laurie Hartigan from Thompson; daughter, Stacie Tweeten and wife Traci Bell from Sycamore Illinois; grandchildren, Michael Storby and wife Sable from Lake Mills, Jake Tweeten and wife Mary from Wall, SD, Kristi Silva and husband Jesse from Forest City, Jessica Vaage and husband Erik from St Paul, MN, Tyler Hartigan and girlfriend, Sara Hagmann from Forest City, Jonathon Bell from Creston, Illinois; his sister, Coleen Crawford Onawa IA; brother in law, Arlyn Schulz New Ulm MN, brother in law, Alan Schulz and his wife Marilyn from Omaha Nebraska, and brother in law, Dan Van Pelt from Bennington Nebraska; great grandchildren, Morgan Brainard from Forest City, Scout and Maddox Storby from Lake Mills, Eli, Alice, Violet, and Wally Tweeten from Wall, SD, Jaxson, Alex, and Sawyer Silva from Forest City, Ryllo Reynolds from Forest City, Leo Hartigan from Pocahontas, Blade Hartigan from Mason City, and baby Vaage from St Paul, MN. Along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
