David gained eternal life on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the age of 89. Although we will never hear him say, “If I was any better, I’d be on a Wheaties box.” again, his wit and humor will live on with us forever.

David was the oldest of 13 children and was born in Bear Creek, Wisconsin. He served our great country in the Korean War (1953-1955) and graduated from Whitewater College in 1959. He went on to teach in a few different schools in the state, spending 17 years teaching Business Ed and English at Theisen Junior High School in Fond du Lac, WI. David also enjoyed time directing many community theater productions. His greatest joy though was basketball and he played for over 70 years! David also enjoyed playing baseball, especially in his younger years playing with all his brothers.

David met his wife of almost 50 years in late fall of 1965. He married Nancy Young on June 4, 1966. They had 4 children and spent their early retirement years enjoying time in Florida. They returned to WI in 2009 and David enjoyed many years with his family before transitioning to an assisted living home in 2018, a few years after Nancy’s passing.

He spent his adult life also deeply involved in his spiritual search. He was an active participant of his church, Grace Christian Fellowship in Appleton until he was no longer able to attend services.

David is survived by his four children: Theresa (Rick) Headley, Brian, Kari (Michael) LaRusso, Melissa (Cory) Pitsch and grandchildren: Alexander, Danielle, Matthew, Courtney, Kaitlin, Michael, Taylor and James. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters; Joan (Duane) Moder, Richard (Judy), Ronald, Carol Schavet, Clair, Chris (Cheryl), Lois (Kirby) Bonnin, Gale (Barb), Diane Bucklin, and Dennis (Patti).

Preceding him in death were his wife Nancy, parents Harold and Klementine, brothers Russell and Curtis; and granddaughter Briana.

Thank you to the staff at Carolina Assisted Living and Kayla from hospice. May Grandpa’s spirit live on with you all.

In Dad’s true spirit we have to end with one of his favorite jokes.

What do you call a blind nun?           A roamin’ Catholic.

May your love of jokes and continuous chuckles live on.
