David M. Hatfield

David Monroe Hatfield (73) fell asleep in death on February 13, 2026, at his home with loved ones by his side. He was born on August 11, 1952, to Fred and Norma Hatfield in Mount Vernon, OH. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 51 years Cathy (Andrews), his beloved mother Norma Wilhelm (Huggins), and his stepmother Pam Hatfield.

He was a proud father of five children – Joel David (Andrea) Hatfield, Aimee (Curtis) Hulse, Kelly Hatfield-Long, Seth David (Leah) Hatfield, Aaron David (Samantha) Hatfield. He was a cherished grandfather to his eight grandchildren – Amanda, Ethan, Austin, Ashlee, Alexis, Alayna, Amilea, Cooper and two great-grandchildren – Lyncoln and Maddex. And a respected uncle to his nieces and nephews.

He was a brother to Steve Hatfield, Harry Lee Wilhelm, Freddy Hatfield, Diana Leist.

David was a trusted friend to many others, too numerous to mention!

He was preceded in death by his father Fred Hatfield, stepfather Harry Wilhelm, in-laws Lynn and Dorothy Andrews, as well as many other friends and relatives.

From a young age David was taught by his mother to love his creator and respect the Bible. He first attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses as a little boy. However, it wasn't until May 18, 1975, that he dedicated his life to Jehovah and got baptized. He was part of the Mount Vernon congregation throughout those 50 years.

At various times he enjoyed serving as an elder, delivering talks at meetings, assemblies, and conventions throughout Ohio. When he was healthy, he loved the door-to-door ministry, where he could share the Bible's message of hope with his neighbors. For several years, he even served as a regular pioneer, spending 70 hours a month in that work.

David taught each of his children from infancy to appreciate the splendor of the night sky, the majesty of the mountains, the power of the ocean, and the peaceful beauty of the woods. In fact, everyone who knew him clearly understood his love and enjoyment of creation. David used his time walking in the woods to ponder Jehovah's creation and draw ever closer to his God.

David loved carpentry and working with his hands. His first occupation was installing aluminum siding for his father's business. But, in 1978 David went to work as a salesman for Mighty Auto Parts. A few years later, he would purchase his own Mighty franchise, a business that continues to provide for his family, now in its 45th year of operation.

David will be remembered as a humble, hard-working, spiritual man. He maintained a positive, joyful attitude even through very difficult times. This was due to his unwavering faith in the Bible's promise found in his favorite scripture at Revelation 21:4 – "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

A funeral discourse will be delivered on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. It will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 189 Mansfield Road, Mount Vernon, OH. Family will be present to greet visitors beforehand starting at 2:00 p.m.
