David Hazelip
July 24, 2011
Sorry to see the passing of maybe a family member, my name is also David Hazelip, my middle name is Kent. I was born and raised in Evansville, In. I now live in The Villages, Fl. The rest of my family are still in and around Evansville.

David Hazelip was my teacher, 1954-57; a better teacher I have never known. His love of learning was infectious. The buoyancy of his personality lifted us all to aspire to be better. When I became a teacher I would sometimes catch myself "doing a Hazelip" (as I thought of it): unintentionally imitating some gesture or some Socratic tactic of his. He was inimitable of course, but what a model to try to live up to! His legacy: a model, not only that of an inspirational teacher but also that of a life very well lived. Rest in peace, my mentor.

My condolence to David Hazelip's family. When I knew him at Trinity he was a very caring and humble teacher. He is truly one of the "old fashioned Rocks". He cared more about what he could do to help someone than what someone could do to help him. Wish they had more of him at Trinity now.
