David Hedger Obituary

DAVID HEDGER

My dad passed away July 5, 2021, from Parkinson’s disease with Lewy Bodies dementia.
I know that he will be missed by many people in the Vancouver area where he spent most of his life. As an adult, he is well known in the building and real estate industry, having been both a contractor and Realtor.
His knowledge, honesty, and pride in his work made him a great business man.
His warmth, humor, and generosity made him a great man.
His love for me made him a great dad.
Some of my best memories are dad and daughter nights eating dinner at Diamond Jim’s, Paul’s, or The Holland restaurants. Watching American Graffiti and Welcome Back Kotter. Taking car rides out to his job sites or up through the Gorge to the see the sights, popping our bubble gum as loud as we could and listening to 50’s and 60’s music on the radio, and him in his leathers on his Harley Davidson. Riding was the one hobby that he truly loved. The camaraderie, the freedom, and the exhilaration of the ride made his feel so alive! He was never the same when he had to give it up and I know he really missed all of his riding buddies.
He made friends wherever he went.
He started going to church later in life, and continued going until he was physically unable. While he was there, he became closer to the Sandstrom family. They adopted him, so to speak, inviting him to family events, sitting with him in church, treating him like true family. Once my dad was unable to attend church, they talked and visited him often and took him out for donuts and coffee at the Donut Nook.
You are truly wonderful people and I will be eternally grateful for you.
My dad was a strong, handsome, funny man, robbed of a happy retirement due to an ugly and unforgiving disease. But he was given care, love, and support by the CDM caregivers, his foster home family, and the medical staff at Kaiser and Legacy. Truly wonderful people doing very tough jobs. Thank you so, so much.
So, in remembrance of my dad eat a donut, play a game of Farkle, rev your motorcycle louder, jam out on Credence Clearwater Revival, and be thankful to what you have.
Good-bye, Dad. I love you.

David was a good and longtime friend. We shared our interests in family, cars and motorcycles, church and doughnuts & coffee at the Doughnut Nook. His warmth and humor, and storytelling are already missed by all who knew him. It's great to know he is with his Saviour, and no doubt spending time with his mom!

I am so sorry for your loss Sherri, Dave was a great Man and I credit so much to him for what I am today. I learned so much from him!
From going to Mariners and Blazer games together, working for him and with him for many years, to simply having lunch together which we did perhaps a thousand times!! I will always remember Dave, always!
Sincerely, Jason Laycoe

Sherri your loving thoughts show how much your father loved you and how much you loved him. I met David at church. It was only to say hi, but I could tell he was a very nice person.
