David Welker Heinly, age 90, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the David Simpson Hospice House. Born on November 12, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, David was the cherished son of the late William and Mary (Welker) Heinly. A proud lifelong resident of Ashtabula, he attended Ashtabula High School before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force, where he served with honor and distinction. On December 9, 1960, David married the love of his life, Shirley Denslow. Together they built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and shared adventures. Their summers were spent at the ARU marina and campground, where they found joy in fishing, boating, and camping-simple pleasures that reflected David's love for nature and companionship. David dedicated over four decades to East Ohio Gas, where he was known not just for his hard work, but for the camaraderie he shared with colleagues who became lifelong friends. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post #103, VFW Post #943, and the East Ashtabula Club, where he could often be found swapping stories and reconnecting with familiar faces. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Colleen (Rick) Bean; his brother, Raymond "Buddy" (Sonja) Heinly; and his grandchildren, Christina, Alyssa, and Michael Bean. David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Shirley; his brother, William Heinly; and his parents. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. Calling hours will begin at 12:00 PM, with burial to follow at Madison Memorial Cemetery in Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David's honor may be made to the APL, 5970 Green Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Arrangements are being handled by Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory.
