I am very sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers. I was a patient of Dr. Hirsch, visiting twice since 2022. He took meticulous notes related to my tests and inquiries into my condition. He had me wait quietly while he documented everything. Dr. Hirsch helped me to understand underlying factors of symptoms. May God comfort you and give you peace.

A quality person and quality doctor. Everyone in the medical field knew how good he was, he will leave a hole in this medical arena.

I was his patient when I lost a good part of my sight in my right eye due to a stroke to my right optic nerve: NAION. Dr. Hirsh was both blunt and empathetic, which struck me as an unusual and much appreciated combination of qualities in a doctor. There wasn´t much he could do to improve my condition, and I appreciated his thoughtful help in my effort to understand the science involved in my diagnosis and prognosis for the future. His concern for me as his patient was evident in every encounter I had with him. I´ll always remember that he responded to my email on Christmas morning a few years back - not a holiday that he celebrated as a religious holiday, but a day away from work otherwise. He was a great professional, who exemplified the greatest traditions of his profession. My condolences to his family and his friends.

Dr. Hirsh will be deeply missed by me, his patient these past two years, as my sight has recovered from brain injury. His knowledge was incredible, and he was patient & kind, a deep thinker and teacher, and had a wonderful dry wit. No one could ever be as meticulous a note taker. May his memory be a blessing.

To the family and loved ones of Dr. David Hirsh I'm sad to hear of your loss of such a great man.
He will be missed by many! He was very knowledgeable when it came to the eyes!
I swear he was the KING of ordering Spinal Taps! Well in my care he was! Even though we bumped heads several times throughout the years of treatment he always knew what he was talking about and kept very close watch on my eyes and condition!
I know I will personally miss seeing him.

Dr. Hirsh took the time to help me figure out a rare eye condition that had made it difficult for me to function for several years. He took the time to listen to me, was careful, patient, and thoughtful in his assessment, and made a huge difference in my life because of it. I am grateful that I got the chance to know him while a patient and can´t imagine the enormous loss to his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing to all.

Dear Mrs. Hirsh,

I was also a patient of Dr. Hirsh. I only saw him twice, but he left an amazing impression on both me and my husband. What a special gift he had to be able to do that.
In those 2 visits, he answered more questions about my eyes and illness that I didn't even know I needed to know. All my other doctors combined never gave me this much information. We were so happy to learn all of this. He was funny too. You really had to listen for when he'd crack a joke, because some of them were subtle.
Funny story: My husband isn't one for close contact. So during our last visit, he had a question about a long piece of plastic Dr. Hirsh was using on my eyes that he held against my face. Instead of just saying what it was for, Dr. Hirsh quickly aims that long plastic piece at my husband's head and holds it against his face. He (husband) looked so uncomfortable and he was backed up in his chair as far as he could go and his head was almost touching the wall. Dr. Hirsh still didn't say anything, waiting for him to see through the plastic. Then he explained it after a few moments. It was SO comical that we still laugh about it.
I know he will be deeply missed. It is sad that such an extremely intelligent, nice, and funny man won't be here to share his knowledge, kindness, and humor to a world who needs more people like him.
God Bless his journey to the Lord and Bless his family and friends in this time of loss.

Dr. Hirsh the first time I meet him I thought he was so rude. I sat in the chair for 10 minutes waiting on him to take a look at my eyes. After he got started he was so talented that he got me dizzy checking my pupils were different sizes 12 times to make sure that he wasn´t seeing things wrong. When we got done he was the kindest sweetest warmest soul. I always referred to him as Santa Claus and he made sure that I had everything that I needed to take care of my eyes. Ty Dr. Hirsh you will be Greatly Missed. Lee Botts patient OSU

Mrs. Hirsh, I was a patient of Dr. Hirsh and I just today found out about his passing. I met Dr. Hirsh in 2013 for my issue and his dry sense of humor met with mine and I knew he was the doctor for me. He always made me feel like he knew what he was talking about and he even gave me encouragement in his sarcastic but witty way and I gave it right back. I am so sorry and may The God of all Comfort comfort you and your family during this time.

It is with heavy heart, I write these words. Dr Hirsh was amazing in what he does. I have worked with him the last 10 years buliding the skull base, pituitary center at OSU. He was there anytime we needed an urgent consult to see a critical case going for an urgent surgery. He is through, professional and love to teach the patients and us when we discuss a case. I used to enjoy reading all the details on his medical notes, just to follow the trail of his thoughts.
It is so sad, and I am sure your loss is even bigger than ours. I hope his soul is in a better place now.

It has been my privilege to work with Dr. Hirsh every Tuesday at the VA for the past year. He was a gift to the OSU program in his ability to share his knowledge to the young ophthalmologists in training. He was always pleasant and had many entertaining stories to share with everyone. I enjoyed his company every Tuesday and all I can say is that he will be missed and there is now a big hole to fill not just academically but also in the good spirits that he brought with him every week.

Dr. Hirsch is the one provider I will always remember. And I have seen MANY physicians over the last 4 decades. I saw Dr. Hirsch about 10 years ago and remember him greatly. He was the one the found I had a deformity in my optic nerve (a rare diagnosis). I remember he said he was perplexed at how I was able to get so long without someone noticing before hand. Him finding that VF deformity help answer a lot of questions/concerns/problems I had over several decades. He informed me of different techniques to use to prevent me from falling down so much. My deepest sympathies to his family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
