After a lengthy illness, David peacefully left us to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025. David was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home - 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. He will be buried with a family service in El Dorado, Arkansas.
David was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on December 11, 1954. His parents John Dan (JD) Holt and Shirley Spooner Holt joyfully welcomed him into the world. The family moved to Shreveport in 1959.
David worked many jobs, including a business he owned with his parents. He worked for many years for Precision IBC, an intermediate bulk container business in Fairhope, Alabama. He retired in 2020 and returned to Greenwood, Louisiana in 2022. David was a man’s man and was the best handy man ever. He had a generous spirit and was always willing to lend a helping hand. David loved muscle cars in his early days and owned several. But eventually he was a “Ram Man”. Sailing, boating, and family were his passion, and he especially loved the waters on the coast of Alabama. He was just as happy to visit with friends on any sailboat in any marina. His family have many cherished memories that will be held dear. He stepson once said, “David is a quiet man, but when he does talk, all should listen.”
David is preceded in death by his parents and his stepson, Jason Rogers Byrd. He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Holt; his daughter, Mindy Holt Adams; his grandson, Joseph (Joey) Scott Whatley; his son-in-law, Kevin Adams; and one stepdaughter, Monica Byrd, who all live in Greenwood, Louisiana. David loved his family deeply and was a devoted husband, daddy, and stepdaddy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in David’s honor, to the Queensborough Masonic Lodge #418 F. & A. M.at 3909 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71109.
