David M. Holtfreter

David M. Holtfreter, 72, of Blue Mound, IL passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Richland Community College.
David was born on May 11, 1950 in Decatur, IL, the son of William Max Holtfreter and Mildred Maxine "Mickey" (Truitt) Holtfreter.
David graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1968, then Parkland College in 1969 with a Certificate in Electronics. He worked for 5 ½ years at General Electric Audio Plant in Decatur as an engineering technician until it closed in 1975. He then worked for Decatur Public Schools as a maintenance supervisor for over 11 years, then he worked at Richland Community College as Director of Operations and Technical Services for over 25 years starting in October of 1988 until his retirement on March 31, 2014. David married Debra Lynn Portwood on August 15, 1998.
David is survived by his wife: Debra Lynn Holtfreter; son: Brandon Shane (Katy) Holtfreter; stepson: Jeremy (Denise) Portwood; grandsons: Noah and Jonah; sister: Marilyn Jeanne (Holtfreter) Canaday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents: Herman Max Holtfreter and Ella Mae (McLain) Holtfreter, Charles S. Truitt and Eleanor Fay (Lacy) Truitt, and his brother-in-law: Richard Canaday.
