David Horton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by West Haven Funeral Home - West Haven on Dec. 24, 2025.
David Keith Horton, born August 28, 1956, in Milford CT, and resided in West Haven CT for 48 years, passed away on December 19, 2025, surrounded by love, leaving behind a family forever shaped by his strength, humor, and quiet devotion.

David was predeceased by his firstborn son, Michael Paul Horton (Gerardo) who passed unexpectedly in August 2024; older brother, Frank; brothers-in-law Robert Daggs and David Clark; and his ever-beloved mother, Susan Steele Horton, and father, William Carver Horton whom he carried with him always.

He is survived by his loving and committed wife of 48 years, Diane Giordano Horton. Together, they built a life rooted in loyalty, perseverance, and unconditional love.

David was a proud father to two more sons: Thomas James (Shanelle) and Kenneth David, and a devoted grandfather to Luci, Mariah, and Derek.

He is also survived by his brother Scott; sisters Lori (Kenneth) Hammill, Kathy Daggs, and Barbara Clark; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will forever remember his presence, his voice, and his laugh.

David selflessly served his country in the United States Air Force as a First-Class Airman in aerospace and warning systems operations, a role he carried with quiet pride and a strong sense of duty. His career as an electrical technician/engineer included several local businesses, and his last place of employment was the Greater New Haven Transit Co. as a part-time dispatcher. During his children's early years, David was active in his sons' activities as a Boy Scout leader and coach for Little League Baseball and youth soccer.

A resilient and headstrong man, David battled diabetes for more than 25 years, meeting it with grit and determination. He was known for his tenacity and his humor-always ready with a joke, whether it was corny, slightly inappropriate, or perfectly timed. While he worked hard to hide it, those closest to him knew the truth: beneath the tough exterior was a soft heart and an enormous capacity for love. He showed that love through steadfast loyalty, unwavering support, and simply showing up-again and again.

David will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and lovingly joked about-exactly the way he would have wanted.

Visitation will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home. On Tuesday morning, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John XXIII Parish at St. John Vianney Church at 10 o'clock (please meet at church). Interment, with military honors, will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
