Dr. Howard was a history professor of mine at Houghton. The very first day of classes, I was wearing a Duke Basketball shirt. From that point on, we always had something to chat about. He made me enjoy history, a subject I am not quite fond of. He really reached out to his students in any way that he could, and I am thankful ours was Duke University. I send my deepest condolences to the family. He will be greatly missed!
