David F. "Howie" Harwood, age 80, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at St. Anne's Healthcare in Winona, MN.
David Francis Harwood was born on August 9, 1945 in Rochester to Rex and Susan (nee Campion) Harwood. He attended school in Chatfield, graduating in 1963 from Chatfield High School. He attended Rochester Community College and then went on to earn a Bachelor's degree at Winona State University. Following his education he entered the United States Army and served his country for 3 years. He was a Vietnam veteran. Upon his honorable discharge, Dave returned home. He then worked as a civil employee for the Army Reserve and taught school in Winona for a time. He then re-enlisted in the Army and traveled the country and the world. He was stationed at the Pentagon when he retired 31 years later.
Dave loved to golf and socialize with his many friends. He retired and wintered in Florida and greatly enjoyed it. He was a Legacy Life member of the Chatfield V.F.W., Post #6913 as well as the American Legion Wm. T Coy Post #92 of Rochester.
Dave will be missed by his siblings Richard (Suzanne Thieke) Harwood of Elgin, MN and Bill (Barbara) Harwood of New Bern, North Carolina, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Don Harwood, Janet Riedesel and Suzanne Orr.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held at the Chatfield V.F.W. on Friday, January 9, 2025. There will be a social hour from 2-3 p.m. with a luncheon from 3-5 p.m.
Burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield at 1:30 p.m. with full military rites performed by the Chatfield Legion and VFW.
