David Hutchinson Obituary David William Hutchinson, 80, beloved by many, passed away Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 after a blessedly short bout with pancreatic cancer.
Born February 26th, 1945, to Harry Edward Hutchinson and Mary Elka (King) Hutchinson, David grew up in Greensburg Pennsylvania with older siblings Harry Hutchinson and Ruth Cooke. David graduated from Hempfield Area High School in 1963 and continued on to Penn State, studying mineral preparation engineering.
David got a job with NASA in Houston, where he met his surviving wife Linda (Glynn) Hutchinson at a splash down party for the Apollo 11 mission.
A 29+ year career at US Steel included moves to Welch, West Virginia and Greensburg, Pennsylvania before settling down in Hampton Township in the early 80s. Over forty years, David and Linda developed life long friendships throughout Western Pennsylvania. As part of a dinner party club they met friends now across the country that they still keep in touch with. Both avid golfers, they participated in many social outings, including an annual weekend golf trip with friends known for decades.
David loved music, oddball comedies, and dogs. After retiring, David spent years volunteering for Animal Friends rescue, and was known to carry milkbones in his jacket pockets for dogs he might encounter.
David is survived by children Shannon (Hutchinson) Crockett, Morgan (Hutchinson) Gosey, and David Hutchinson. Fatherhood for David included coaching soccer teams for all three kids, surf fishing on beach vacations, and a rolodex of dad jokes that was as reliable as his love for his children.
As a grandfather to surviving grandchildren Grace Gosey, Jack Crockett, Landon Gosey, Ainsley Crockett, Emmaline Crockett, Grant Gosey, Henry Crockett, and Oliver Crockett, "Pap Pap" was a true baby whisperer and always a reliable mark for an ice cream run, no matter the hour.
David will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Animal Friends Rescue.
Visitation Friday October 10th from 5 PM until the time of the Blessing Service at 7 PM at Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw.
