David E. Janssen, 83, of Algonquin, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026. He was born January 12, 1943, in Peoria, IL, to Herman and Henrietta (Reese) Janssen.
David proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He went on to build a 40-year career with United Airlines, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Rohrman. The two were united in marriage and shared 57 wonderful years together.
David was the devoted father of Wendy (Eric) Schourek and Steven (Erika) Janssen, and the proud grandfather of Emma and Grayson Schourek, who were the absolute joy of his life. He was also the beloved brother of John (Marsha) Janssen. David never missed an opportunity to travel to Texas to cheer them on at sporting events, concerts, and special moments.
He loved to travel and explored destinations all over the world. Closer to home, David enjoyed golf, Chicago sports (especially the Bears, Cubs, and Bulls), and taking drives in his beloved 1977 red Corvette. Whether it was a big road trip or a simple day trip, he was always ready to go.
David had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his jokes, generosity, and supportive nature. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back. He also enjoyed going to the movies, reading Tom Clancy and mystery novels, and relaxing on the patio during the late summer and fall months.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 26, from 4:00 pm until the time of the prayer service at 7:30 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
