David Jarrett, 72, of
Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on March
20, 2025, of esophageal cancer.
David was born on September 20, 1952, in Charleston, West Virginia, to James Norman
Jarrett and Pauline (Reed) Jarrett. He grew up in Nitro, West Virginia and graduated from
Nitro High School in 1970. After graduation, David moved to Wheeling, West Virginia and
worked as a coal miner for just over 10 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers
of America.
In 1987, David married his soulmate, Diana (Philabaum) Hartman. They moved to Charlotte,
North Carolina that year. David held long running positions with a number of companies in
Charlotte including Gallup Property Management, Hawthorne Property Management and
finally KleenPro Restoration, before retiring in 2015.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Jimmy Jarrett. He is
survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Diana; their children Charles (Heather) Hartman of
Portland, Oregon, Stephanie (Craig) Hartman of Acton, Massachusetts, Crystal Bryant of
Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Phillip Jarrett of Moundsville, West Virginia; a number of
grandchildren; his sister, Cheryl Slater of Charleston, West Virginia; his brothers, Boyce
(Bev) Jarrett of Little River, South Carolina, and Kevin (Cynthia) Jarrett of Nitro, West
Virginia; his cousin, Jerry (Becky) Voiles of
Charlotte, North Carolina.
Known for his generous spirit, kindness, and prodigious skill at organizing just about
anything, David's enthusiasm, open heartedness and can-do attitude made a positive
impact on countless people throughout his life. David was instrumental in the growth of
Carolina Senior Sports, serving as the Program Director for BOOM during most of its
development, managing Tuesday nights for CSS, and serving as the Program Director for
CSSL for a number of years. In his over 15 years of volunteering with CSS and its associated
organizations, David formed many close friendships and recruited dozens of people to play
ball.
A celebration of life service will be held at Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road,
Charlotte, NC 28226 on Saturday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial
