I am deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of my good buddy, Dave. I´ve known him ever since I moved directly across the street from him in 2018, and from day one, he was more than just a neighbor-he was a true friend. Before COVID hit, we had a standing lunch together once a week. We planned to resume doing this in 2025. We played golf, practiced golf together, talked about guns and music, and spent hours in conversation about just about everything. Nothing was off-limits. We didn´t always agree, but we always liked and appreciated each other. I picked his brain more than once, and he was always generous with his wisdom. He was, without a doubt, one of the smartest, most insightful people I´ve ever known, and beyond that, just a good soul-a genuinely good man.
Our driveways, if extended, would touch each other, and that´s fitting because Dave was the kind of person who was always connected to those around him. The first thing he ever did to demonstrate what I´m mentioning was see me stuck in my driveway after a snowstorm and, without hesitation, grab a shovel and dig me out. "Turn your wheels this way!" he called out. That was just who he was-kind, generous, and always willing to lend a hand. And that was far from the last time he helped me with something. I´ve lost count. He had a good heart, always social, always gregarious, always ready with a smile or a chuckle. Lots of things amused him.
Dave wasn´t just a neighbor; he was a real presence in my life. He went with me to medical appointments, bought me a good bottle of bourbon this past Christmas, and came over more than once just to hang out and watch something on TV. He had a way of making everyday moments better, just by being himself. His absence leaves a real void, and I will truly miss him more than I can express.
