David Johnson Obituary

David "Dave" Johnson

January 19, 1953 - January 11, 2026

David "Dave" Johnson passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Grand Island Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at All Faiths Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at St. Mary's Cathedral, with a reception to follow. Online condolences may be left at www.allfaiths.com. Memorials are suggested to Cairo QRT or family for future designation.

Dave was born January 19, 1953, in Kearney, Nebraska, to Charles "Goldie" and Wilma (Duncan) Johnson. He grew up grounded in strong values, a respect for hard work, and a deep appreciation for family and friends-qualities that defined him throughout his life. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1971 and was a proud member of Ravenna's 1968 Class B football team, inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 for its remarkable season: "Unbeaten, Untied, and Unscored Upon."

On November 25, 1978, Dave married the love of his life, Lorrayne "Lori" Schlund. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and devotion to family. They lived in Lexington before settling in Cairo in 1986, where Dave formed many lasting friendships and memories.

Dave spent more than 40 years working at Case New Holland, where his loyalty and strong work ethic were evident to all. Outside of work, he took great joy in life's simple pleasures-hunting and fishing, camping, gardening, mowing the lawn, and working with his hands. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, restoring and painting tractors, practicing taxidermy, and baking pies from fruit grown on his own trees.

A devoted sports fan, Dave faithfully supported the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas City Chiefs. One of his greatest joys was coaching his daughters' softball teams, where he taught not only the fundamentals of the game, but also the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and heart.

Dave was known for his quick smile, infectious laugh, and genuine sense of humor. He had a rare gift for making others feel comfortable and leaving them smiling. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was happiest when surrounded by family, offering quiet support, steady guidance, and unconditional love.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lorrayne "Lori" Johnson; his children, Jeni (Jon) Beazley, Lisa (Lance) Steele, and Jason (Destiny) Johnson; his grandchildren, Alexis, Keirsyn, and Presley Beazley, Rohbicheaux and Atlas Steele, and Gavyn and Callen Johnson; his great-grandchild, Ace Settles; and his siblings, Dan (Dewey) Johnson, Diana (Bob) Meyer, and Dawn (Ed) Neville, along with his in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles "Goldie" and Wilma Johnson.

Dave will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the values he passed down.

"He who enjoys doing and enjoys what he has done is happy." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
