David Lee Jondro was born in
Monroe, Michigan on December 16, 1946. He was the oldest of three children born from the union of William G. Jondro and Judith (Emmick) Jondro. He graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School and then completed his bachelor's degree at University of Detroit in 1969. He was drafted into the United States Army proudly serving his country from October of 1969 until September of 1971.
Dave married the love of his life, the former Michelle Gligoroff on April 19, 1974, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Monroe. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children. To provide for his family, he worked as a plumber. First for Jondro Plumbing and later as the owner of Dave Jondro Plumbing in Monroe for many years.
Dave was passionate about athletics. Whether it was baseball, softball, basketball, or football, he quickly became fully immersed in the games. He loved coaching and dedicated countless hours to teaching his children and many others in various sporting leagues, including the CYO and high school level.
David was a staple of St. Mary Parish for decades, serving as an usher, greeting congregants with a warm, friendly smile and a firm handshake. His commitment to community service also manifested in his active involvement with the Knights of Columbus Council #1266 Monroe. As a third-degree knight, he participated in various activities where he later took on the responsibilities of Deputy Grand Knight.
Dave had a knack for grilling and barbecuing, often bringing people together over a hearty meal. His backyard became a gathering spot for friends and family, filled with the smell of food, and the sound of country music, all accompanied by a cold, albeit inexpensive, beer from his well-stocked fridge. His hospitality extended to church events as well, where he delighted in cooking for Mass in the park and the council's pancake breakfasts.
In the kitchen, David's skills weren't confined to grilling alone. He and his wife "Mitzi" possessed a remarkable talent for baking, particularly when it came to Christmas cookies. Dave and Mitzi with the help of their children made many cookies over the years. Their cookie trays, often given as gifts, were legendary among friends and family.
As a lover of college football, he was a committed follower of his beloved Michigan State University Spartan football team. He held season tickets, affording himself the opportunity to attend games whenever possible. Dave appreciated the pageantry of the amateur game, which extended to his fascination with college football marching bands. He became a band connoisseur, relishing their performances and even collecting stuffed animal versions of college mascots as a tribute to his fondness for this aspect of the university gridrion culture.
