We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, David Llewellyn Jurhs. David was born in Portland, Oregon on November 7, 1952 and passed away on January 29, 2023. David was the youngest of 6 children born to Alvin and Margaret Jurhs. David was 1/8 Clatsop Indian and was very proud of his heritage.
In 1974, David married Lois Ann Kempen and they lived in Hillsboro, Oregon throughout their 48-year marriage. They had 4 children: Jennifer (spouse Ken), Lisa, Michael (spouse Sarah) and Katherine and 6 grandchildren: Trinity, Kevin, Tyler, Travis, Joshua, and Jacob.
David was employed by Grandma's Cookies / Frito Lay in Beaverton for 30 years. He was incredibly hard working to support his family and woke up every morning at 4am to make a fire for his family before heading off to work. He was a dedicated and loving family man -- his wife, children and grandkids were his greatest joy. David also loved gardening, cruising, camping, road trips, and playing outside with the grandchildren.
Dave was very generous with his time. He was the first to volunteer to help anyone in need. He was always there for family, moving his adult kids from place to place, climbing 26' scaffolding to help paint a house, doing yardwork at his parent's and in-law's in their later years, and countless help with maintenance work at his sister's house.
Dave taught us to laugh at ourselves and he was always doing silly things that brought joy to life -- he was a model of good-natured fun. He set the bar high by illustrating what it means to be a good husband and father, and how to live a Christ-centered life.
Dave loved sports, he coached every team he could, he umpired Little League and Youth Basketball. He was the dad that would start and play pickup games of softball or basketball in the street for his kids (and all their neighborhood friends, too).
David was a devout Catholic and attended St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Hillsboro since 1974. He loved God and had great faith by following God's light. David walked the path of faith by being amiable and friendly, creating a peaceful environment, helping neighbors, and being an usher at weekly mass.
Jesus is the Light of the World, whoever follows him will never walk in darkness.
John 8:12
