David Koenes Obituary
He is survived by his son Mark Koenes and daughter-in-law Katie Koenes.
David was preceded in death by his sisters, Julie Schipper, Glory Bierema, and Faith Looman.
David was born on September 30, 1937, in Holland, MI to Bert and Evelyn Koenes. He graduated from Holland High School. For a short time, he lived in Brazil before heading back to Michigan where he started a career in the hotel industry which brought him to Upstate New York. David lived in Schaghticoke, NY for many years before moving back to west Michigan to be closer to his daughter-in-law and son.
David loved the outdoors and would spend hours floating in his pool. He was also a big fan of southern gospel music such as the Blackwood Brothers, Gaither Vocal Band, and The Hoppers. This love of gospel music was passed onto his son. Mark and Katie were able to get David to a few Gaither concerts after moving to west Michigan. Later in life, David enjoyed hanging out on Mark and Katie's porch with his grand-dog Echo. He referred to their place as "the ponderosa." Dave loved a good meal, and his favorite restaurant was the Olive Garden where he would always order the fettucine shrimp alfredo. "Extra shrimp."
David was accepted to the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont, MI for end-of-life care, but passed before he could get moved to this facility. This facility is a volunteer and donation-based facility. The family asks that those wishing to make a contribution in David's memory consider donating to this facility to help support their mission.
