David Lause Obituary

Augusta, GA - Dave Lause died at home with family on May 24, 2025, from respiratory complications due to pneumonia that developed after a fall and broken ribs he sustained on May 5th while working on a wood-working project in his garage.

David B. Lause was born on Sept. 9, 1948, in Delphos, OH to Norval (Bunny) Lause and Pauline Schwinnen Lause. He attended St. John's Catholic School, from which he graduated in 1966. He then went to Ohio Northern University in the fall of 1966. He began his studies as a history major and changed over to the biological sciences his sophomore year. During his senior year, he applied to various medical school programs for study in the anatomical sciences and was accepted at Ohio State University Medical School, where he received his PhD. He continued his studies with a post-doctoral research fellowship position at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center/ Medical School. After completing his post-doctoral assignment, he accepted a faculty position at the Medical College of Georgia and moved to Augusta, GA where he was involved with research in immunology. As the research field changed, he was asked to teach human gross anatomy in the Medical College of GA department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. He taught students in both the School of Allied Health and in the Medical School. He eventually became the course director of the gross anatomy course for the medical school and also taught neuroanatomy. He headed the medical school program until he retired after 33 years full-time and several years part-time. He loved teaching and was a patient of several of his students as time passed!

He is survived by his wife of 40 years:, Cree Matthews Lause; son: John Lause; daughter: Andria Lause Myers; and two granddaughters:, Alayna and Lily Myers.

He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband and father, a man of dry wit, sarcastic humor, and a soft heart, who loved reading, hunting, fishing, storytelling, paddling whitewater canoes, hiking, exploring, and woodworking.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA, on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 am. Family will receive visitors from 10:15 am -10:45 am in the narthex of the church.
