David was born on April 6, 1949, in Amarillo, TX to Leta Mae Cobb and Charles Alvin Lee. He attended Tascosa High School and later in life earned his Associates Degree from Clarendon College.

His early working years, he was a truck driver and also worked at Acme Brick Co., with his uncle, Lee Armstrong. He graduated from the Amarillo Police Academy in 1977 starting his law enforcement career. He retired from the Pampa Police Department in 2011 after faithfully serving for 34 years as a Police Officer. He was affectionally called by those who worked with him at the PD, “Paw-Paw.”

David was a welder and often referred to as a “Jack of All Trades”. He was well known for expecting you to do your job the right way. He had a work ethic that was honorable, and solid. He loved his family above all else.

Betsy was born on March 28, 1951 in Wellington, TX to Sarah Hellen Grantham and Loron Albert Grantham. She was raised in Miami, TX and graduated in 1969. Betsy attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX. She worked in the hotel/restaurant industry most of her life, in Tennessee, California, and Texas.

Betsy was the owner/operator of Jake’s Coffee Shop from 1989 until 2003. She worked at TDCJ – Jordan Unit until her retirement in 2016.

David and Betsy met in Pampa, TX in 1989, when David wrote Betsy a traffic ticket for Jessica not being in a car seat. Their relationship started right after this.

They loved pulling their camper all over and camping every summer. They could be found fishing, having a campfire, making homemade ice cream, and Dutch oven cobbler. Betsy loved cooking for everyone. The best times they had were with family and friends, especially their grandkids! They were loved by their camping friends, known as “Tolby Campground Family.”

They were preceded in death by their parents; David was preceded in death by his sister, Janie Lee, Jr. (Little Janie); and stepmother, Janie Lee, Sr. Betsy was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe and Tom; and son-in-law, Justin Scherlen.

They were loved by many friends that were more family than friends.

They are survived by their daughters, Jessica Herzberg and husband Robert of Silverton and their children Charity, Taylor, Jackson, Garrett, and Judd; Heather Acker and husband Kris of Borger and their children Cydney, Charlie, Camdyn, and Zuriyah; Dawn York of Amarillo and her daughter Caroline; Theresa Loya of Hereford and her children, John David and Cassandra; many great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
