The NY Review of Books will not be the same without Levine's insightful drawings. I will miss his work!

My heart goes out to the David Levine family, but may you take comfort in the brilliance and exuberance of his talent, and the many lives he touched.

I've admired him as long as I can remember.

I met him once in the early 70s. As a student, I had written him a note asking if there was a way I could show him some of my own political cartoons and get some advice. To my surprise, he invited me to stop by his home in Brooklyn. I'll never forget how kind, cordial and hospitable he was, and how amazing it was to see his work area with a drawing in progress, right on his desk.

Yours were the most trenchant views of the men guiding this country during the Bush administration. Your drawings said it all about Cheney, Kissinger, et al.

Looking at your work at the Forum made me want to laugh and cry and wish I could hug you for the beauty of your line.

my parent's dear friend, Uncle Si, (Diamond) studied painting with David Levine, and always spoke of him in glowing terms. I now own many paintings and drawings by Si Diamond
and they definitely are heavily influenced by Mr. Levine. I love them all. I never met Mr. Levine, but I can't help but think I knew him, just alittle.

Please enter a condolence here
I was away when Dave died and devastated to hear of his passing. He was such a warm and humorous manwhose paintings were wonderfully loose and expressive. I feel lucky to have known him. My sympathies to his wife Cathy.

Dear Levine family: Please accept our warmest sympathies and be comforted knowing that God is “near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalm 34: 18). He can give us ‘power beyond what is normal’ to go on from one day to the next. (2 Corinthians 4: 7).

I have always admired the work of David levine. How he managed to draw a cartoon version of a famous person and still make the drawing recognizable! being an untrained artist myself my entire life,I can only idolize an artis such as him. REST IN PEACE.

My Grandfather (David Kagan) was like family with the Levines, particularly David's parents (Harry & Lena) and my mother (Renee Brickman) was David's contemporary. So when I read in today's Newsday that David had passed away it resonated as if we had lost another member of our extended family. David will be missed but his work will live on. I consider myself fortunate to have met him, and more fortunate that I have some of David's artwork, both signed and unsigned, to help keep his legacy alive.

May Jehovah's love blanket you at this time when life seems hard to bare.He did not create us to suffer the loss of loved ones in death but He promises a ressurection.(John5:28,29).

I have always loved David Levine's artwork. I discovered his work as an art student at Syracuse University's School of Visual and Performing Arts in the 70's. I continued to follow his career and am now saddened by his death. I am heartened to see that illustrators (and I am one) are still appreciated. Most heartfelt sympathies to those he left behind.
