David Litchfield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Chittenden County on Mar. 8, 2023.
COLCHESTER - David Litchfield, 73, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
Born on December 7, 1949 in Lowell, Massachusetts, to Harold and Christine Litchfield, David was the youngest of four boys. As a child, he spent his summers with his brothers and cousins on Peaks Island in Maine.
In high school, David was a standout athlete on the Dracut High School basketball team. Despite having Polio as a young boy, David never let the long-term effects of his illness stop him from achieving whatever he put his mind to.
In 1971, David met his wife Linda (Metivier) Litchfield in Dracut, Massachusetts. They married on May 19, 1973 in Burlington, Vermont and were married for 49 years. Later, they moved to Colchester, Vermont where they raised their two sons Mike and Mark.
David loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. His grandkids were his pride and joy. He liked boating on Lake Champlain and looked forward to trips back to Peaks Island in the summer where he grew up. Lobster Bakes became a beloved tradition for David when he was on Peaks Island.
David was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting back yard parties and grilling for his family and friends at cookouts by the pool. He spent his career working in food service for Sodexo at Saint Michael's College and later at The University of Vermont.
David is predeceased by his parents Harold and Christine Litchfield and his brother Robert (Bob) Litchfield.
He is survived by his wife Linda Litchfield; his three grandchildren-Emma, Lexie, and David Litchfield of Colchester; his son Mike Litchfield and his partner Tara Sherman and her two children Ben and Sophie Sherman of Colchester; his son Mark Litchfield and his partner Jeff Morton of Peaks Island; and his two brothers-Joe Litchfield of Peaks Island, and Mark Litchfield and his wife Shirley of Dracut.
No funeral service or calling hours will be held per David's wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's memory to Colchester High School Athletics Girls Basketball Student Activity Account, 131 Laker Lane, Colchester, VT 05446.
