David Carl Luck Sr.

David Carl Luck Sr. passed away on February 7, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was 84 years old. Dave was a graduate of Deposit High School (1956) in Deposit, NY, Nyack Missionary College (1961) in Nyack, NY (now located in lower Manhattan). Dave was ordained as a minister by The Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). He spent 24 years ministering in C&MA churches in Salamanca, NY; Vestal, NY; Essex Junction, VT; and in Warren, NJ.
In 1987, Dave started Lucky Lectrical Co. as an electrician in Kinderhook, NY. Then in 1992, Dave and his wife Melodie moved to Rome, NY where Dave served as the Executive Director of Delta Lake Bible Camp. He was instrumental in the expansion of the year-round ministries at Delta, the design of the north side of Simpson Circle with the gazebo, the purchase of Faith Chapel, and numerous other activities at Delta. Dave has volunteered and/or visited this camp for more than 82 years! He was also the District Representative for Christian Camping International (CCI).
In 2005, Dave retired from camp life and he and Melodie moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, where he served as elder, teacher, choir member, the Pastor's Pastor, and financial manager at Surfside Presbyterian Church.
Dave's life was built on being a servant of Jesus Christ and reaching out to the many around him who did not have a relationship with God. Dave was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed softball, racquetball, golf, and swimming. He also sang with the Low Country Barbershop Chorus. Dave was a musician and choir director; he played trumpet from age 10 right through age 82! Even in his final days, music made him smile and sense the love of our Heavenly Father. His favorite hymn was "Be Thou My Vision" which was a constant reminder of his comfort in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Saviour.
Dave is survived by Melodie, his loving wife of 35 years; his children David Jr (Susan) and Melody (Jack); and Melodie's children Kelly (Eric) and Kerry (ShannaSue); and grandchildren David III, Jonathan, and Austin Luck; Erin and Samuel Serra; Brook and Tyler Wager; and Levi Garman.
Our family would like to give special thanks to the friends, church family, and medical caregivers who visited and helped over the last few months. You have provided comfort and the grace of Jesus during a very difficult time.
A memorial service will be held at Surfside Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Dave's honor to Delta Lake Bible Conference Center, 6420 Pilmore Dr., Rome, NY 13440 or to Surfside Presbyterian Church, 8732 US Hwy 17 Bypass South, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588.
