David Charles Matekel Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved brother, uncle, and friend, David Charles Matekel, passed away November 27, 2024 at his home in Hillsdale, Michigan at the age of 63. The beloved son of the late Harry and Helen (Burzyck) Matekel was born on June 21, 1961 in Saginaw, Michigan. David attended Eisenhower High School and was part of the 1979 graduating class. He met the love of his life, Leigh Taylor, at work. They were married on August 15, 1987, and were able to spend 13 wonderful years of marriage together before her passing on April 23, 2001. They lived in Otsego, Michigan for many years, within the last seven years David moved to Hillsdale, Michigan where he resided until his passing. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to music and collecting music albums. He also had a passion for woodworking and Tai Chi; his love for Tai Chi lead him to become an instructor.
Surviving are his brother, Gregg Matekel; sister, Diane Matekel; niece, Meghan Matekel; and two nephews, Nolan and Andrew Matekel. He is lovingly reunited with his wife Leigh and his parents Harry and Helen.
In accordance with David and his family's wishes cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in honor of David's life may consider The Mustard Seed Shelter or The Barb Smith Suicide Resource and Response Network.
