It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Fountain Mathis, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, who departed this life on September 13, 2025 at the age of 85. David was born in Sapulpa on November 7, 1939. He married Ingeborg Ciecierski in Butzbach, Germany.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, David was known for his kind spirit, strong work ethic and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. David served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962 and worked for Liberty Glass for 39 years, retiring at age 62. Throughout his life, he was a source of strength and guidance to those who knew him, offering both wisdom and warmth in equal measures.

David's life was marked by quiet integrity, steady compassion, and a deep love for those closest to him. Whether lending a helping hand to a neighbor, fixing bicycles or cars for the local neighborhood kids and adults, sharing stories with friends, or simply sitting with Inge on his porch and enjoying the peace of an Oklahoma sunrise, he lived with grace and gratitude.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the memories shared, the lessons taught, and the love he gave so freely.

David is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ingeborg Mathis, children, Michael (Sherry), David (Leah), Patty (Kevin) and Stephan (Rachel), grandchildren, Chris, Justin, Tyler (Maggie), Mikaela (Matt), Kyle, Connor (Abby) and Andrew and his beloved dog, Pixie.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Rose, sisters, Beryl, Edith and Roberta, his granddaughter, Caitlyn and his son-in-law, Steven McGraw.

The family will have a private Celebration of Life to honor David at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in David's memory to the Caitlyn's Way Foundation, a non-profit set up to honor David's granddaughter, Caitlyn Brooke Mathis.

Caitlyn's Way Foundation, 14258 S 65th West Ave, Kiefer, OK 74041 or the Caitlyn Mathis Daffodil Run website.
