David Matthies Obituary
of Saint Petersburg, FL passed away, March 15, 2026 at the age of 77, following a long six-year journey with frontal temporal dementia. He passed away with loving Care in Hospice. He was born in Buffalo, New York on March 26, 1948. He was the beloved son of Dave and Marion Matthies. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in St Petersburg FL, where he faithfully sang in the choir and served on the council. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joann of 55 years; sister, Nancy Hoff and family, Dustin and Autumn, Dave's children, Julia Cubler (Brian), Jenell Swartz (Dave); grandchildren, Anna and Kate, Marley and Landon, Caroline; and his favorite sister-in-law, Linda Miville (Norm). Professionally, he worked in the Wholesale distribution industry more than 60 years. There will be a service March 28, 2026 at 11 am at Lutheran Church of the Cross. Address 4545 Chancellor St. NE. St. Petersburg, FL, 33703. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations in his memory to Suncoast Hospice Care Center at Bayfront Medical Center or Lutheran Church of the Cross. Dave will be remembered for a life given in quiet acts of goodness and love for his fellow man.
