David was added to the 318th PSYOP Company where I was the commander. I was grateful to have him join us and gobsmacked when he informed me he lost a lot of weight and got his body in shape so he could rejoin and come to Iraq with us. David is a true gentleman with the kindness of heart. I remember David getting between a donkey about to be killed and those who were going to kill it. He could not stand the thought of any animal coming to any harm.
While in Mozul, Iraq, we often times were surrounded by many Iraqis and many children all wanting to learn who we are and what we were doing. As soon as they learned Specialist McCorkle´s first name was David, the children and the adults began to call him king David. They would instantly want to hold his hand or touches clothes. He took it in stride and always had the biggest smile on his face. He certainly fell in love with the Iraqi people and did his best to help the children. His goodness will certainly live on in many of us who knew him. Colonel Paul Dixon US Army, retired

Dave and I served together with the 318th PSYOP Co, supporting the actions of the 101st Airborne in the 2003 action against Iraq. I recall Dave as a serious and especially committed soldier on our team, who changed his life in order to serve in reaction to our 9/11 tragedy. After much deprivation in an extremely austere living environment, to be expected in a desert combat experience, Dave still found the compassion to reach out and help locals in the most need. From a place where it was unlikely to have any reliable or enduring communication with the home front, Dave organized and formed a 501C for the Orphans of Ninevah Province, an area in northern Iraq where we eventually ended up. He is an unforgettable man, dreamer and achiever, who accomplished so much for and with others, in the harshest of conditions, with a kind and generous attitude for all. Rest well, brother, it was a privilege to serve with you. "Sergeant V"
