David "Jay" McGee, 56, beloved son of the late Merle Allen and Bobbie Gail McGee, entered the gates of heaven on Monday, January 27, 2025.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, on May 5, 1968, Jay, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light of love in the lives of all who had the pleasure of meeting him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, laughter, compassion, and his unwavering faith in the Lord.
From an early age, Jay lived an extraordinary life. He was a Boy Scout, active in Special Olympics, and played in several youth sports programs. He attended and graduated from Washington Center School in Greenville, SC. Upon graduation, he worked at Goodwill Industries Foundation for three years before accepting a custodial position at the Federal Courthouse in Greenville, where he worked for 15 years.
In his spare time, he had many hobbies; he belonged to a Bocce league and two bowling leagues. He had a great love of animals; taking care of and playing with the family pets, including his three dogs, which brought him much joy. When he wasn't coloring or playing cards, he was enjoying his favorite hobby, puzzles; he would happily do them for days on end.
Upon the passing of his father, he (and his mother) moved to Estill, SC where he joined Nixville Baptist Church, and lived with his eldest sister Joy, and family for 18 years. Jay was a dedicated servant of the Lord and was active in many areas of the church, including the youth and children's ministry, which he loved serving.
Jay was a devout Clemson fan! One look at his bedroom and you'd know it. His favorite clothing was anything orange, purple or had a Clemson tiger paw. Jay had such a loving and giving heart. He had a strong desire to help those in need, especially children. He faithfully donated each month to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and personally enclosed a colored picture containing a bible verse with each donation.
Jay is survived by his siblings, Allen McGee (Teresa), Joy Kircher (Allan), and Chrissy Leschak-Epstein (Freddy); nieces and nephews, Lindsay Mason (Jonathan), Tyler McGee (Deanna), Megan Bates (Chris), Zach Long (Terri Lightner), Jeff Kircher (Kirsten), Brandon Kircher (Candace), Tyler Kircher (Marcy), Morgan Bracco (Jeremy), Malone Fanning (Corey), Marlowe Newman (Corey), Austen Epstein (Zak), Nathanael Epstein, Dryden Epstein and Larkin Epstein; 28 cherished great nieces and nephews; and cousins: Joni Embrey (Jodie), Lisa Garber (John) and Kenny Leslie.
Jay's living testimony has reached many souls. He was a true gift of God to his family and all those who knew him. May his memory be a blessing and may we all carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do as his light forever shines in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held graveside on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.at Rosehill Cemetery, Piedmont, SC 29673.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St.Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://stjude.org) or American Diabetes Association (https://diabetes.org)
