SHELBY David Henry McMurry, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in Cleveland County, NC, at the age of 86. Born on January 20, 1940, in the same county, David lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and love for his family and community.
Throughout his career with the City of Shelby Utility Department, David was known for his unwavering commitment and his remarkable ability to fix anything that crossed his path. A true "Jack of all trades," he took immense pride in his work, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, whether it was a neighbor or a stranger. His practical skills and resourcefulness were admired by all who knew him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Grady McMurry and Selva Johnson, as well as his brothers Bill, Carol, and Willard McMurry. He leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his son, Joey McMurry and his wife Ashley, his daughter Annette, his brother Larry McMurry, and his sister. He also cherished his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride. David’s extended family and friends will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
A private burial service will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Park, where David will be laid to rest alongside his loved ones. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit of kindness, resilience, and generosity continues to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In this time of loss, we remember David for the strength, warmth, and humor he brought into our lives. May his journey forward be filled with peace, and may we honor his memory by living with the same heart and spirit he shared with us.
