David H. Memo, age 95, of Neshannock Township, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2024, at Jameson Place in Neshannock Township.
Born July 31, 1929, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Nick and Filipina (Sforza) Memo. He married the love of his life, Frances Stephanie Majeski, on August 8, 1953, who preceded him in death in 1989.
David was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1948. Upon graduation, he faithfully served his country in the United States Navy, serving from 1948-1952, as an electrician on the U.S.S. Van Valkenburgh during The Korean War.
David began his career with Republic Steel (later LTV Steel) in Youngstown, Ohio where he worked as an electrical supervisor until his retirement in 1984.
He was an active member of St. James Church in New Bedford for many years and currently of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church.
David's life was always centered around the love and devotion he had for his family. He enjoyed attending their sporting events, academic pursuits, and especially family gatherings. He was an avid golfer who played regularly until he was 92 years old. One of his favorite events was the annual Memo Golf Outing, which has three generations of family members competing and enjoying each other's company. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, reading, watching the Steelers, and especially traveling out west to visit his children and grandchildren in the winter.
David is survived by his three sons, David (Deborah) Memo of New Castle, Ronald (Norma) Memo of Henderson, Nevada, and Gregory (Randa) Memo of Dana Point, California; one daughter Patricia (John) Lubera of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters Alice Bonfield of New Castle, and Lucy DeGruttola of New Castle; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Samuel, Ted, and Nick Jr..
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 19, from 4 to 7 PM, at Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory located at 3000 Wilmington Road in New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites at 9:45 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A procession will then leave the funeral home for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with Father Aaron Kriss officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in New Bedford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission in New Castle or the donor's charity of choice.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Jameson Place for their compassionate care of their father.
