David Lee Mesmer of Fort Morgan, CO passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024 following an illness.
David was born on August 31, 1943 in Norton, KS. He was the 3rd of 4 boys born to the late Ivan and Letha Mesmer (Dwinell). David was raised in the Weldon Valley area of Colorado and attended High School in Fort Morgan, CO. He was married to Judith Mesmer (Olson) on August 7, 1965 and they spent many happy years together until Judy's passing in April of 2022. Together Dave and Judy created a welcoming household that many considered as home. They were able to host many family gatherings that will be missed dearly by many.
David worked in many different industries throughout his life. He was a skilled mechanic and fabricator, was a truck driver for several years, and he spent the majority of his life self-employed in the oil & gas industry. Dave was very knowledgeable about anything with a motor and was often sought out for his advice on fixing just about anything that was broken. He loved sharing his passion for vehicles and he spent many years working side by side on them with dear friends and family and in his earlier years he could often be found drag racing. David also had a passion for teaching his knowledge of the oil and gas industry. Through the years he had the great pleasure of working with numerous friends and family including his brothers, his son Troy Mesmer, and his grandkids. Later, towards retirement, he was honored to be able to pass on his love for his work to his grandson Brady Gettman.
David was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife. He is survived by his three children; Marcy Bosworth (Mesmer) of River Falls, WI and her husband Pete Bosworth; Troy Mesmer of Streeman, TX and his wife Melody Mesmer (Florquist); Leslie Ditter (Mesmer) of Fort Morgan, CO and her husband Shane Ditter; as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. David also leaves behind three brothers; Keith Mesmer and his wife Myrtle Mesmer of Ogden, UT; Ted Mesmer (late wife Nancy Mesmer) of Simpsonville, SC; and Dean Mesmer and his wife Bobbie Mesmer of Fort Morgan, CO as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.
There will be an open house celebration of life on November 9th at 4:00 at The Dream Banquet Hall located at 108 Lake St, Fort Morgan, CO 80701. A light supper will be served. Anyone wishing to bring a salad, side dish, or dessert is encouraged to do so and will be greatly appreciated, but is most certainly not required.
