David D. Metz, Sr., 88, of Chambersburg, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at his home. Born June 15, 1933 in Chambersburg; he was the son of the late Albert and Gertrude (Knight) Metz.
He was a graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Class of 1951. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. In his early years he was employed at the Blue Bird Restaurant. David was a retired Letter Carrier for the U. S. Postal Service with 37 years of service.
David was a member of the Chambersburg Athletic Club, helping the Chambersburg Cardinals, the Chambersburg Yellow Jackets and the Chambersburg Maroons. David also coached little league baseball and grade school basketball. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Orioles.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Catherine (Helmuth) Metz; son, David D. Metz, Jr. and his wife, Tracey Conner Metz; a daughter Carla M. Metz Avey and her husband Steve; his late son's significant other, Diane Shaffer; grandchildren, Michael Metz, Alysha Hardman and her companion Sondra Miller, Jessica Nye, and Samantha King;four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Myers, Mary Hardman, Bernice Tosten and Alice Uglow; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Anthony W. Metz; and brother, James Metz.
Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, November 22, 2021 in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Dale Detweiler and Pastor Dave Besecker officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service Monday morning in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grane Hospice, 1200 Camp Hill Bypass, Suite 205, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Chambersburg Hospital, Menno Haven Rehab, and Grane Hospice for their support and care.
