David Milbrath Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 31, 2024.
Milbrath, David E. age 80 of Minneapolis, passed away on December 29, 2024. Preceded in death by parents, Cyril and Mary. Survived by loving wife of 58 years, Diane; daughter, Holly (Eric) Larson; granddaughter, Ingrid; brother, Dean (Diane); and many extended family and friends.
David Edwin Milbrath was born in Duluth, MN on July 10, 1944, He passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, after a long journey with dementia. David grew up in Hermantown and went on to receive his DDS at the U of M Dental School in 1967. Opening his first dental practice in Richfield in 1967, he grew the practice to 41 offices with numerous partners and wonderful employees who were like a second family to him. Over the years he was a member of local and state dental organizations and served on the board of directors for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation and American Dental Partners.
He was a longtime member of Edina Country Club and Mount Olivet Lutheran Church. He enjoyed life to the fullest when he was playing golf, tennis, cooking, gardening, watching the Packers and traveling. His travels included Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, Russia and Africa. David's real passion over the years was the North Shore. There he spent time at the cabin, hiking, skiing, hunting, gardening and cooking. The North Shore allowed him to flourish in another passion, photography.
Photography played a major part in every trip he would take. From the views, colors and beauty of Hawaii, to the grittiness and rawness of the Russian people and landscape, David's photography told stories. The most important trip of David's life was a journey to Africa, where the animals and scenery presented were perfect participants in his photographs. David's pictures provided visual memories of his past as he struggled with the memory robbing disease of dementia. You can see some of David's pictures hanging in the halls of many Metro Dentalcare locations. A phrase commonly used to describe David in the days since his passing is "Loving and Caring".
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Mount Olivet Lutheran Church or Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. Memorial service to be held Thursday, January 16th at 1pm with visitation one hour prior at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S, Minneapolis.
