David Ray Moore September 29, 1962 – December 25, 2023 Chandler, Arizona
David Ray Moore, a loving husband, father, brother, and son, passed away on December 25, 2023, near his home in Chandler, Arizona.
Born in Niagra Falls, New York, David was the beloved son of Mary and Delbert Moore. He was the first in his family to graduate college and proudly attended Texas Tech University. David built a successful 40-year career in sales, notably with Avnet, where he formed lifelong friendships in every chapter of his life-professional, personal, and spiritual.
Outside of his career, David was a man of many passions. He could often be found tinkering with his beloved truck or cruising on his Harley, a source of both joy and occasional chagrin for his loving wife. His lifelong faith was an essential part of his life, as was his devotion and support for Broomfield United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Gilbert, Cornerstone, and Sun Valley Community Church. He attended service every Sunday and actively participated in various church groups where he developed and nurtured lifelong bonds with friends, grew with God, and formed a lifetime of memories which he treasured and shared constantly.
David's adventurous spirit led him to hike the Grand Canyon rim to rim, explore the world's wonders, and nearly set foot in all 50 states (North Dakota was last on the list!). However, his greatest achievement was his nearly 37-year marriage to his devoted wife and his role as a loving father to his two sons.
David was known for his warm heart and willingness to help those in need. He volunteered for numerous mission trips over the years, often accompanied by his sons. He was the first to lend a hand to friends and family in times of trouble, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Lauraie, and two sons, Zach and Tucker, David is survived by his brother, Mike, his father, Delbert, and an extensive (and well loved) mob of extended family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of David's life will be held on January 20, 2024, at First United Methodist Church of Gilbert at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Canyon State Academy (20061 S Rittenhouse Rd, Queen Creek, AZ 85142), where David volunteered and mentored young men with challenging circumstances or to your favorite charity.

David and I became friends in elementary school, we grew up together in the same neighborhood. We had many fun times with a few tough ones, we remained friends in spite of miles, years and life changes. A True Friend, David Moore.

I am so sad to hear about David's death. We worked together back in the 1990s at Avnet and even though we went to different departments throughout the years, we always saw each other almost every day. He always had a big smile and wonderful sense of humor. We had many conversations about the good food at Si Senor's Mexican restaurant. He was so happy for me when I announced my retirement from Avnet. My heart is broken but heaven got a new angel.

Its hard to reflect over 20+ career years without thinking about the challenges and wins over that span. Dave was a mentor, friend , fellow Texan and family fellow Texas Tech grad. Dave and I shared two life events. We both walked into Avnet and all the TVs out to absorb the impact of Sept 2001 Impact. Nobody worked that day. Years later my friend hard a heart attack on the phone with me and I raced to that building while Avnet teams were attending to my friend who was having a cardiac event.
Dave and I got to his laptop and family contact information. Dave placed a calm and secure message to the family that conveyed the message and game plan moving forward. I will miss the business fires we put out, him calling me Matty and endless metaphors that set the tone of each call. Missing your fist bumps in the hall each day bud. Matty

David was the best guide you could ask for. Smiling, laughing and bounding down the hall in a sports jersey and well worn cowboy boots. He knew everyone and what was happening in their lives. Most of our conversations started with work and ended with the important stuff, faith and family. He was an anchor for so many of us and is missed tremendously. So many times I thought, "wow, I´ve got so much yet to learn from this dude." All the lessons will be treasured. Thanks Boss

I had the opportunity of getting to know Dave about 12 years ago during one of his many customer visits / audits to the McKemy warehouse. Very pleasant and witty personality, passionate about his work and a solution oriented person. Just said hello on the Wednesday before Christmas. I As the scripture states in Daniel 12:13 - "As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance."

My 1st memory of David was walking by his office and he was singing and playing a pretty mean air guitar solo. I am grateful to have worked with David for many years and will miss his presence at the office.

David Ray: Where do I begin?

My friend for over 46 years, in fact we actually met back when you were at Heizer Jr.High in 1976,as you yelled at me when us Highland Jr. High Bears came to your gym for a basketball game against those pesky Hornets ,and you and Willie Morales yelled at me " Hey Pretty Boy, your gonna get beat"

Yep I remember it like yesterday.

Through the years you have always been there to talk to me and your brutal honesty I will hold so very close in my heart.

I have a voicemail from you from a few months back and I just keep replaying it over and over, and fighting back the tears.

Sharon and I love you and your family and we pray for our Lords comfort for all.

A world without you in it doesn´t compute, but God has called you home and I know you are not in pain and you are young again.

Miss you bro, you are revered in this house and always will be, and I will catch up to you someday and will that be a great reunion.

But I do know that your presence will be near when I a hear Boston, rocking on the radio or a tall Guinness beer is being poured up.

I will toast you every time bubba!

Brother you are missed!

Your other brother!!

I can truly say there was never a time that I did not see Dave without a smile or sly grin. Dave and I stated to work together over 18 yrs. ago in the D/A group at Avnet. First thing we talked about was faith. You could simply see it in him. We connected as brothers. Brothers in Christ and beyond. He called me "Little Bro and Brother from another Mother". Well, I am Darrell Ray Moore. Kinda indirectly connected from the start without knowing it. Just so terribly thankful to have known Dave. Please save some room for me in heaven and I will do my best to deserve it. May God's blessings continue to be with the family and all who read this.

Dave was a dear friend, colleague, and mentor. He truly was like a brother to me. He was so funny and his wit was unstoppable. He always knew how to make me laugh and my bad days would soon turn good by just having a short conversation with him.

I worked with Dave at Avnet and his knowledge has taught me so much through the years. I am so thankful for that.

I am so grateful for the little time I had to get to know him and I am going to miss him greatly.

Sending prayers to his wife, two boys and extended family as well as the Avnet family Dave has touched through the years.

RIP my brother

I had the distinct pleasure of working closely with David the last 10+ years of my 40+ years with Avnet. As a coworker, Dave was always there to greet you with a huge smile, and give a big bear hug when needed. He had the uncanny ability of knowing when you were having a bad day, and would pull you aside into his office, or take a walk to the cafeteria, to cheer you up, many times using his always humorous sports analogies. As a friend, Dave was always there to offer his friendship, wisdom and support, and loved to share his love of his wife, and sons, of whom he was so proud, and his faith, which always guided him. Dave was a good, gentle, sweet soul that was taken way to soon. We can only assume God had greater plans for him. God truly has a great new angel in heaven. My love thoughts, and prayers to his wife, sons, family and friends.

Dave was loving and kind to all those he encountered. He always had a smile on his face when you passed him in the hall at work or as he approached to have a conversation. We had a love of golf during our conversations at work and got the opportunity to see him outside work at Oakwood Golf course as well. He was with his golf buddies, loving life and full of joy! He was a very positive person and always brought a smile to those he encountered. He will be missed greatly at Avnet and my thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult time.

I enjoyed our end of quarter breakfast events we would host and serve breakfast to the Avnet staff (COE-Hilton). David always made and fun and would save the funniest things (very quick witted).
