David Morar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ferfolia Funeral Home on Feb. 25, 2026.
DAVID MATTHEW MORAR SR. November 17, 1955 – February 21, 2026

David Matthew Morar Sr. passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, skill, and an unwavering devotion to his family. Born to the late John J. and Alice M. (nee Knapp) Morar, David was a man defined by his integrity and his desire to leave the world better than he found it.

A Life of Service and Mentorship

David's professional life was a testament to his commitment to public safety, spanning over three decades in Northeast Ohio. He began his journey serving five years with the Streetsboro Police Department, where he met the love of his life, Karen, who was serving as a dispatcher. Their connection, forged in their shared mission to help others, led to their marriage on July 25, 1987 and a lifelong partnership of nearly 39 years.

David later joined the Solon Police Department, where he served with distinction for 27 years as both a patrol officer and a detective. He was a "teacher of teachers," serving as the department's Firearms Instructor and Gunsmith, as well as the Police Pursuit Trainer. His bravery and technical precision were further evident in his early work in some small undercover operations and as a member of the S.E.A.L.E. (Southeast Area Law Enforcement) Metropolitan Bomb Squad. Despite his tactical expertise, David's heart for the vulnerable was most visible in his years working within the juvenile and court systems, where he advocated for the youth of his community.

An Independent Spirit

Outside of the uniform, David was a man of many talents and simple pleasures. He found peace in nature and the quiet satisfaction of working with his hands. Whether he was hiking through the woods, masterfully woodworking in his shop, or volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, David believed in the value of self-reliance and the importance of passing those skills to the next generation. In his later years, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills of home construction and repair with his son and daughter on their respective homes.

Family and Legacy

David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice; survived by his brother, Ted Morar (Charlotte); and preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Manilla (Richard) and Linda Woznuk (Ray).

His legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife, Karen; his daughter, Sarah Flanagan and husband Kevin, and his son, David Morar Jr. and wife Emily. He was the proud grandfather to Brynna, Conor, and baby to be, children of Sarah and Kevin; and Jesse, child of David and Emily. To his family, he was a bedrock of strength, a man who could fix anything and a protector who always put his loved ones first.
