David Robert Nielsen

David Robert Nielsen passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 21, 2026 in Palm Desert, CA, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on July 15, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, David was the son of the late Robert Earl and Bonnie Lou (Brissey) Nielsen.

David attended Carl Sandburg Junior College and built a successful career in the automotive industry at Galesburg Lincoln Mercury, where he rose to become the dealership's top salesman and sales manager. His quick wit, sharp mind, and natural ability to connect with people made him both respected and admired.

He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his love of cars, all things mechanical, and a passion for golf. David was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Ole Miss football, loyalties he followed with enthusiasm and pride.

David was preceded in death by his first wife Sarah Pritchard Nielsen as well as his brother James Andrew Nielsen.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa Cooper Nielsen; his son Robert (Beth); his cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Abigail, whom he adored; his sister Rebecca; his brother Jeff (Amy); nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were better for having known him.

David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Tranquility Sands Hospice and Heart of Gold Nursing, especially Jenny Johnson, who provided compassionate care and support to David and Melissa during his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
