David Thomas Nixon, 86, of Edenton, NC passed away at his residence on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
A native of Chowan County, NC, David was the husband of the late Kay Dail Nixon and the son of Kermit Linwood Nixon and Josephine Lawrence Nixon, both deceased. David was a life-long member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. He was employed at the Newport News Shipyard where he worked several years. While at the shipyard, he had the opportunity to work on the U.S.S. Enterprise, CVN 65 and the America Aircraft Carrier. He stated, “It was an honor to work on these ships”. Later, David went to work at Harvey Point where he retired after 27 years of service. He was also a commercial fisherman, electrician and plumber along with his Dad. David loved wood working, carving many lighthouses and waterfowl. He loved fishing and spending time at the beach. He was a neighbor and friend to all and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his daughter, Judi Gregory and husband, Lee; grandson, Johnny Skinner and wife, Shara; stepdaughter, Teresa Forward and husband, Douglas; two step grandchildren, Allen Forward, and Kristina Bryant and husband, K.J.; seven great grandchildren, Kloe, Skylar, Zoe, Melanie, Brianna, Isaiah, and Sadie; one sister, Linda Long and husband, Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, David was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Nixon; granddaughter, Jodi Lynn Skinner; sister, Patricia Long; and brother, Jack Nixon.
A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home Chapel in Edenton, NC with Rev. Trey Rogers officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
