David Blair Noland
Retired Lilly executive, died on December 10, 2008 at age 85. A native of Indianapolis, Mr. Noland held a number of management positions at Lilly, including director of international marketing planning. He also was instrumental in establishing the Lilly European headquarters in London and later was the managing director of the company’s German affiliate. He was director of corporate communications at the time of his retirement in 1976, after which he was a marketing consultant. He was on the board of directors of the former Peoples Bank and Trust Co. for many years.
Noland attended Wabash College and was a graduate of Harvard University. During WW II, he was an Army Air Force pilot who flew 68 missions in New Guinea and The Philippines. A tennis enthusiast, he regularly competed in national tournaments for seniors.
Mr. Noland was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bernice. He is survived by his son, David B. Noland Jr. (Lisa), granddaughter Caldonia, and daughter Rebecca N. Noland. Funeral Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Opportunity Endowment Scholarship, established by Mr. Noland, at Ivy Tech Community Collegeâ€"Central Indiana, 50 West Fall Creek Pkwy, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
