It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David R. Oja on January 3, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on December 21, 1964, in Fitchburg, MA to the late Gerald Oja and Barbara (Morley) Oja.

He grew up in Fitchburg as the second oldest of five siblings. David was a beloved brother, a devoted Uncle, and a loyal friend. A pillar of the family, “Uncle Dave” was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or simply share a lighthearted moment. With a quick witted sense of humor, genuine kindness, and an optimistic outlook, it was hard not to enjoy time spent with him. His sincerity always made those around him feel seen and loved.

He leaves behind his siblings Susan M. Oja of Somersworth, NH, Scott M. Oja of Fitchburg, MA, Kevin M. Oja of Rockport, MA, and Ann-Marie E. Oja of Lunenburg, MA; his nieces and nephews Emily Oja, her partner Matthew Grandich and their daughter Myla, Meghan (Oja) Resenite and her husband Agustin Resenite, Jacob Oja, Abbigail Oja, Jessica, Matthew, Kyle St. Peter as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves his cats Buddy and Suklaa.

David was a brilliant man with a passion for learning. A 1982 graduate of Monty Tech, he was a National Honor Society student earning a diploma in drafting. He had a love for basketball playing on the Monty Tech team. He continued his education at Worcester Industrial Technical Institute and Central New England College graduating with an Associates degree in 1985. Dave was a dedicated employee working for GE for 15 years and then spent the last 25 years working as a Senior CAD Designer / Technician at DRS Technologies, where he was highly respected for his expertise.

A lover of the ocean, Dave always made time to go to the beach, especially enjoying vacations at Hampton Beach with his family. His love for travel and adventure led him to explore many different places, creating unforgettable experiences with friends and family. As an avid sports fan, he attended countless games at TD Garden to cheer on the Bruins and Celtics. When it came to football though, he loved the Miami Dolphins. In addition to sports, Dave found happiness in his favorite hobbies: golfing, bowling, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and skiing. “Uncle Dave’s” legacy is one of loyalty, love, laughter, and joy. He had the ability to bring people together and make everyone feel like family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
