David Perez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benson & Langehough Funeral Home & Cremation on Mar. 20, 2026.
David Kim Perez, age 74, of Northfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Mala Strana Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Center in New Prague.

David was born on November 26, 1951, in Gary, Indiana, to Floyd and JoEllyn (Leasure) Perez. He grew up in Gary and graduated from East Gary High School. From an early age, Dave showed a curious mind and a love of learning that stayed with him throughout his life. He went on to earn two bachelor's degrees from Purdue University-one in Computer Science and one in Electrical Engineering-an accomplishment that reflected both his determination and his deep intellectual curiosity. Later he earned his Master of Science in Software Design and Development from St. Thomas University in St. Paul.

Dave began his career at Digital Equipment Corporation as a database developer, where his analytical mind and thoughtful approach made him well respected. In time, he chose the independence of contract work, continuing to apply his skills over many years until his retirement.

Outside of his professional life, Dave found joy in the simple and beautiful moments of the world. He had a deep love for photography and travel, especially in his fifth-wheel RV. Each year, he and his family would set out on six-week adventures, exploring national parks, the scenic landscapes of the American West, and the bird-filled coasts of Florida. Through his camera lens, Dave captured not just images, but memories-quiet sunrises, sweeping vistas, and the delicate presence of wildlife.

Dave will be remembered for his sharp intellect and his thoughtful, methodical nature. He approached life with careful consideration, often researching decisions in great detail-sometimes even creating spreadsheets to weigh every option. While he could be strong-willed, those who knew him best understood that this came from a place of care, intention, and a desire to get things just right.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Katrina of Burnsville; and grandsons, Isaiah and Isaac Bolden. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to FiftyNorth Senior Center in Northfield.

A private committal service will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery, followed by interment.
