David Webster Phillips, age 83, of
Glen Rose, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2025.
David was born in
Glen Rose, Arkansas, where he lived his life rooted in faith, family, and providing through honest work. He was married to the love of his life, Barbara Ann (Chandler) Phillips, for 65 years. Their marriage was a testimony of devotion, faithfulness, and deep love, and David was a caring and devoted husband until the very end.
David was a faithful member of Fairplay Missionary Baptist Church for 73 years and an ordained deacon for 57 years. His faith guided everything he did. He prayed often-for his family, his friends, and anyone in need-and he genuinely cared about the spiritual well-being of others. David believed strongly in sharing the message of salvation, often pointing others to the truth found in Acts 16:30–31: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." One of his favorite hymns, "I Want My Friends to Pray for Me," reflected the way he lived: humbly, faithfully, and always mindful of others.
David was a hardworking and respected business owner, owning and operating both a welding business and a construction business. He graduated from Glen Rose High School in 1960. He took great pride in his work and was especially proud of becoming a certified pipe welder, an achievement that reflected his skill, dedication, and strong work ethic.
More than anything, David loved his family and was deeply proud of each of his children. He was especially proud of his eldest daughter, Barbara Lanette (Phillips) Chastain, who dedicated 38 years as a school teacher; his son, David Wayne Phillips, who served faithfully as a Missionary Baptist preacher for 42 years; and his youngest daughter, Lisa Ellen (Phillips) Blackmon, who serves as a professor at Dallas College.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Phillips; his two children, Barbara Lanette(Phillips) Chastain and Lisa Ellen (Phillips) Blackmon; his daughter-in-law, Shelly (Burnett) Phillips; seven grandchildren: Amber Chastain, Melissa Manis (Jeff), Lauren House (Matt), Dewey Phillips, Lindsay Edgin (Andrew), Paige Cullins (Chris), and Logan Shuttleworth (Sean); eleven great-grandchildren: Jacob Manis, Abigail Manis, Mattie House, Julie Manis, Lawson House, Melody House, Daniel Edgin, Luke Edgin, June Shuttleworth, Emery Shuttleworth, and Eli Cullins; and his sister, Sandra Murphy.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Webster and Marie Martha Phillips; his son, David Wayne Phillips; his infant daughter; and his son-in-law, William Earl Chastian.
David will be remembered as a faithful, caring, loving, and kind man-someone who checked on people often, prayed for them regularly, and quietly lived out his faith through his actions. He loved attending church, working in the church, and spending time with his family. In his free time, he enjoyed working on his collection of antique John Deere tractors, crappie fishing, elk hunting in Colorado and Utah, and deer hunting-simple pleasures that brought him great joy.
David Webster Phillips leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, integrity, and love. His life was a blessing to all who knew him, and his memory will live on through the family he cherished so deeply.
