Watch David's Funeral
David A. Pinske, age 80, of
Gary, MN, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Essentia Health in
Fosston, MN.
David Allen Pinske was born on August 7, 1943, in
Ada, MN, to Ben and Gladys (Ellingworth) Pinske. He grew up on the family farm near Gary where he attended school, graduating from Gary High School with the class of 1961. On March 20, 1965, David married Janice Sandwick at the Gary Lutheran Church, and together they started their family. Throughout his career, David held various positions, including working at SS Construction, the sugar beet industry, and TDS Trucking. In 1993, he joined Jacobson Transport, dedicating 18 years until his retirement. Truck driving allowed him to explore much of the United States, occasionally with Janice by his side. David drove over 4.5 million miles during his over the road career. In June of 2011, David suffered a severe accident but showed remarkable resilience, working diligently through physical therapy. His hard work paid off when he achieved his goal of walking both his daughters down the aisle at their weddings in 2011 and 2012.
In his retirement, David finally took the time to relax and enjoy life. He loved watching comedy TV shows, listening to country music, and indulging in his favorite outdoor activities. Whether riding his 4-wheeler and side-by-side, trapping gophers, hunting, or fishing, he embraced the "country boy" lifestyle. He instilled the value of hard work in his children by taking them out to cut wood in the winter, even on the coldest and windiest days. A favorite nightly quote they often heard was, "Get in bed by the 9pm whistle, or it's Bucky Time," which meant he would tickle their tummies, or "Bucky" as he called it, until roaring laughter ensued-creating fond and unforgettable family memories. He especially treasured the time spent with his grandchildren, making countless special memories. David was known for his great sense of humor and quick wit, always bringing laughter and smiles to his family with his jokes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janice Pinske; children: Deb Voyles, Darrin (Stephanie Nedrebo) Pinske, Becky (Ladd) Sumerfelt, Melissa (Tim) Tjon, and Matt (Karen Leslie) Pinske; four grandchildren: Joshua Kisser, Natalie Sumerfelt, Madelyn Sumerfelt, and Tristan Tjon; brother, Ronnie (Kathy) Pinske; sister, Jean Pinske; brothers-in-law, Chuck (Veronica) McCalip and Duane (Aileen) Sandwick; and sisters-in-law: Collette Skretvedt, Rita Sandwick, and Beverly (Floyd) Hettver. David was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leland Pinske; and sisters, Carolyn and Patti Pinske.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 4:30pm – 6:30pm, with a prayer service at 6:30pm, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home,
Twin Valley, MN. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:00am, with a visitation beginning 1 hour prior, at the Gary Lutheran Church, Gary.
